Card Valet - Quick Guide

The Card Valet App and all Card Valet services are free from your Hometown Community Banks.  There are no hidden charges or extras or upgrade to buy.  However, your carrier may charge data or usage fees.

General

Getting the App
Download the free App from Google Play or iTunes.  You can locate the App by searching “CardValet.”  Your phone must be using the most recent Android or iPhone operating system, or one of the two previous versions.

Cancelling or Reactivating Card Valet
To cancel the service simply uninstall the App from your phone.  If you want to reactivate Card Valet after deleting the App, reinstall the App.  You will need to set up your cards and preferences again.

Setting up the app and your card

Set up your User Name and Password
User Names cannot contain a period, such as in an email address.  Passwords must be at least eight characters in length and must contain at least: one upper case character, one lower case character, one number, and one special character.  You can only change your User Name by uninstalling and reinstalling the App.  You can change your Password anytime in the Settings\Security screen.

How to register your card
The first time to open the Card Valet App you will be prompted for the card number, your address and ZIP code, expiration date, the three number security code on the back of the card and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.  The information you enter - including your address - must match the information on record at the bank exactly.  The only exception is if your address exceeds the 20 characters allowed.  If that happens, enter just the first 20 characters of your address.  You cannot use Card Valet with a debit card from a Health Savings Account.

Registering additional cards
Anyone with access to the card and registration information can register a card.  Each person who registers a card will have access to controls and alerts for the card and can change them.  To register additional cards use the Settings \Add Card” screen.  There is no limit to the number of cards you can register.

Registering the same card on different devices
You can register the same card on multiple devices, but you will need to select which device is “primary.”  The primary device is used to track the GPS for “My Location” alerts and controls, and all alerts will be sent to the primary device.  Alerts are sent to the  primary device set up from that particular device. You can change the primary device by accessing “Settings\Primary Device.”  All devices that have registered a particular card can view or change the CardValet settings for that card, even if they are not the primary device.

Registering replacement cards
If the card number is new, then the user must add the new card number.

Deleting cards
Cards which you longer want to control with Card Valet can be removed from the list of available cards by using the Manage Portfolio link from the main menu at the top left of the home page.  To remove a card uncheck the box for the card.  The card will remain listed in Manage Portfolio, but can no longer be controlled with Card Valet settings.  Caution:  Any controls you set prior to removing the card from Card Valet will be cancelled.  You can return the card to the system by checking the checkbox again.

Controls
Setting any of the controls will only affect transactions made or attempted after the controls were set.  Changes in the controls take place immediately.  Controls only affect transactions when the card is present.  Controls will not affect internet transactions or preauthorized debits.

Turn the card "On" or "Off"
If you have only one card registered you will see the "On/Off" control on the first screen, directly below the image of your card.  If you turn the card "Off" it cannot be used anywhere for any purpose until you turn it back on.

Using My Location
The My Location controls and alerts will check to ensure the merchant location is within the same zip code as the device set as “primary” within CardValet. These controls only affect transactions where the card is present at the point of purchase.  Internet transactions are not affected.  If the phone is off for more than an hour, My Location controls will not take effect, and the transaction will not be denied on the basis of the old location information.  Turn on My Location in Control Preferences\Locations\My Regions.

Using My Regions
Using Control Preferences\Locations\My Regions allows you to define a Region by map, city, state or zip code.  The card can then only be used within that region.

Block all international transactions
International transactions can be blocked using the “International” location control. Transactions will be limited to the United States.

Receiving Alerts
CardValet alerts are sent as notifications to the phone. The alerts also display under “Messages” in the CardValet app.

Using the Low Balance Alert
CardValet can alert you when an account balance falls below a dollar amount you have set,  Card Valet only checks your balance under when you log into CardValet or if you Refresh the screen.

Viewing transactions
You can see any transaction for the previous 30 day (up to a maximum of 50) by selecting "Recent Transactions" from one of several screens where it appears or from the Main Menu.
